HIGHVELD AWARD GLORY FOR THE TEAM
Sean and his yard enjoyed great success at Saturday’s Highveld Feature Season Awards, which took place at Turffontein.
Not only was Sean crowned Champion Trainer Of The Season, but three of the stable’s equine stars picked up awards on Saturday.
Rising star filly Green Diamond, winner of both this season’s G2 TAB SA Nursery and G3 TAB Protea Stakes, was named Champion 2YO Filly, while the Tarry yard’s G1 TAB SA Derby winner Legend Of Arthur was crowned Champion Stayer.
The stable’s top-class three-year-old Cosmic Speed was another to claim an award with that G1 Wilgerbosdrif t H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes winner named Champion 1400-1600m horse.
The yard also enjoyed success on the racetrack on Saturday with Sean sending out promising filly Alta Capitana to win on debut at Turffontein.
Under Craig Zackey, the Klawervlei Stud bred two-year-old stayed on strongly to land the 4Racing Welcomes You Maiden Juvenile Plate (1160m) by just under three-parts of a length.
Owned by Wernars family, who enjoyed another big day on Saturday, Alta Capitana is a daughter of Captain Of All and the Fort Wood mare Fortissima.
