Sapphire Glitters At Greyville

The Tarry yard had a fine day at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.

Not only did the stable send out promising two-year-old Blizzard Quest to win the first race, but the yard’s classy filly Green Sapphire overcome plenty of adversity to land Saturday’s G2 HKJC World Pool Stakes.

Under S’Manga Khumalo, three-year-old Green Sapphire almost came down in the race, and had a wide trip to overcome.

However, she showed her class when staying on gamely to win Saturday’s 1400m feature race for fillies and mares by just under half a length.

Winner of the G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes earlier this season, Green Sapphire was bred by her owner, Drakenstein Stud.

Now a winner of five of ten starts, Green Sapphire is a Gimmethegreenlight half-sister to graded stakes winners King Of Gems and Pink Tourmaline, and she, no doubt, will be a very valuable prospect when she retires to the Drakenstein paddocks.

The beautifully bred Blizzard Quest is bred to be very quick but looks more of a classic type, and he got off the mark when victorious in Saturday’s SABC Maiden Juvenile Plate (1600m).

The two-year-old son Querari, and full-brother to the former smart Tarry yard inmate Slalom Queen, showed plenty of courage on Saturday.

Under Craig Zackey, the two-year-old dug down deep to best favourite Matcha Mint by nearly half length.

Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, Blizzard Quest, who finished runner up to subsequent G2 TAB SA Nursery runner up Esteemed last time out, races for the Wernars family.
