Classy Sorts Shine At The Championships Finale

Sean Tarry Racing enjoyed a wonderful graded stakes treble (the stable had four winners overall) at Turffontein on Tuesday.

The Tuesday meeting had been postponed from Saturday after heavy rains.

The Tarry Yard looks to have a very exciting two-year-old in the form of Get Up.

The latter made a mockery of her third-place effort in the recent G2 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Nursery when she stormed home in Tuesday’s G3 TAB Pretty Polly Stakes (1100m).

Under the log-leading Craig Zackey, Get Up pulled well clear of her chasing rivals to make it two wins from three starts with a three-length demolition job.

Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, the classy filly looks set for a KZN campaign following her facile win on Tuesday. A half-sister to this season’s G3 Byerley Turk winner Malmesbury Missile, Get Up is a daughter of champions What A Winter and Gabor.

The Tarry Yard’s second graded success on Tuesday came when the classy five-year-old mare Callmegetrix defied stamina doubts to win the G2 TAB Igugu Stakes (2000m). Under a great ride from Craig Zackey, Callmegetrix hit the front close to home and stayed on strongly to hold off her paternal half-sister Minogue and win by a length.

Bred by Rathmor Stud, Callmegetrix was claiming the second graded win of her career, with the daughter of Vercingetorix having also prevailed in the 2025 G2 Betway Joburg Spring F and M Challenge.

Owned by Mario Ferreira and the Camargue Stud Syndicate, Callmegetrix has won eight of 30 starts and had finished third to champion Double Grand Slam in the recent G1 Empress Club Stakes.

Tarry-trained runners dominated the finish in Tuesday’s G2 TAB Senor Santa Stakes (1160m), where Jerusalema Rain vanquished his G1-winning stablemate Cosmic Speed into third spot with a courageous performance.

In winning the Senor Santa Stakes, Jerusalema Rain provided his rider Mickaelle Michel with her biggest success in South Africa to date.

The Tarry yard has done a wonderful job with Jerusalema Rain, with the gelding having had his share of issues, and the son of Captain Of All showed plenty of heart in winning on Tuesday.

Bred by Keivan Stud, Jerusalmena Rain races for Dayalan Chinsammy, Aden Lahoud, Jarryd Lahoud & Sean Tarry Racing (Pty) Ltd.

Exciting three-year-old Fire Storm ended the day on a high note for the stable when he won the 11th and final race in devastating fashion.

Under a front-running ride from Craig Zackey, the Pathfork gelding pulled well clear of his rivals, with Fire Storm staying on strongly to win by six lengths.

Owned by Kestorm Investments, Fire Storm has won three of just five starts and he looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

Bred by Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud, the progressive sophomore is yet to finish out of the first four.
