Gimme A Vodka, Page Boy Salute At The Vaal
Fresh off enjoying a double on Thursday, the Tarry yard repeated the feat when the stable sent out Gimme A Vodka and Page Boy to win at the Vaal on Saturday.
Promising two-year-old Gimme A Vodka had finished a close second on debut when going down by a head. The son of Gimmethegreenlight duly made amends for that defeat when he won Saturday’s 4Racing Welcomes You Maiden Juvenile Plate (1200m).
Under Keagan De Melo, Gimme A Vodka quickened up smartly in the closing stages and stayed on well to score by nearly two lengths.
Owned by Antony and Angela Beck in partnership with Mark O. Hackner, Gimme Vodka was bred by Owloon Horses.
The colt is out of the three-time winning Captain Al mare Vodka Lime, and he is bred on very similar lines to the Gimmethegreenlight-sired G2 winner Gimme A Shot.
Keagan de Melo gave Page Boy a fine ride when the pair teamed up to win Saturday’s For Hospitality Bookings Call 011 681 1796 MR 74 Handicap (1700m).
Keagan settled Page Boy towards the back of the field early on before bringing the gelding with a strong run towards the inside. Page Boy hit the front 200m from home and kept galloping gamely to hold off runner-up Prince Of Kildare to win by a neck.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, the son of Flower Alley is owned by the Wernars Family. Bred on the same cross as the stable’s former star Princess Calla, Page Boy, winner of two of his last five starts, is out of G2 KRA Fillies Guineas winner Fiorella.
