Grande Hawaii, Speedman Catch The Eye

Sean Tarry Racing enjoyed a good day at the Vaal on Thursday, with the yard sending out the well-bred pair of Grande Hawaii and Speedman to win impressively.

Two-year-old Grande Hawaii, a close relative of high-class sprinter King Of The Gauls, made a big impression when she won Thursday’s 4Racing Welcomes You Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1200m).

After benefitting from a first run, the daughter of Hawwaam always looked too good for her rivals and so it proved. Under a confident ride from Keagan De Melo, Grande Hawaii cantered home to break her maiden impressively by three lengths.

Bred by Lammerskraal Stud and owned by the Wernars Family and Harry Willson, Grande Hawaii looks to have a bit of scope about her and she looks to have a bright future.

Classy three-year-old Speedman made it four wins from five starts when he downed some smart sorts to claim Thursday’s TAB Telebet 0861 000 822 MR 99 Open Handicap (1200m).

Under Ryan Munger, the Vercingetorix gelding turned Thursday’s race into a one-horse affair, with Speedman cruising into the lead before drawing off to win impressively by five and three-quarter lengths.

The gelding was weighted to win Thursday’s race, but nonetheless there was lots to like about his win.

Bred by Dr Kritzinger, Speedman, who was dropping back in trip, races for Mr and Mrs Kuhn, Aden Lahoud, Jarryd Lahoud, Larry Pogir and Sean Tarry Racing.

By champion sire Vercingetorix, Speedman is out of the Trippi-sired G3 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Speedy Suzy.
