Quantum Theory Game In Spring Spree Stakes

Sean Tarry Racing had a good day at the Vaal on Saturday, when the stable sent out a pair of winners.

The stable’s recent acquisition Quantum Theory put up a courageous performance when he won the day’s feature race, the Listed Betway Spring Spree Stakes.

Making his first start for the Tarry yard, six-year-old Quantum Theory was given a great ride by S’Manga Khumalo to land Saturday’s 1200m feature.

S’Manga kept his mount going over the closing stages, as the pair held on gamely to win by half a length.

It was a smart performance by Quantum Theory (who had won the same race in 2023) as he was giving 3.5 kgs to the highly regarded runner up Kamensky.

Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, Quantum Theory had been purchased by the Wernars family for R270 000 at the 2025 August Online Auction.

A son of prominent sire Querari, Quantum Theory (who hails from the same family as the yard’s top class performers Bless My Stars and Bull Valley) is out of the top-class Zimbabwean mare Control Freak.

The stable also won the second race at the Vaal on Saturday, with the Tarry trained Matroosberg victorious in the Betway Maiden Plate (1450m). Under Kabelo Matsunyane, the son of What A Winter stayed on strongly to break his maiden by just under a length and a half.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Matroosberg races for Dayalan Chinsammy, Mark Currie, Messrs A and J Lahoud,,E Naicker,Larry Pogir,S Poriazis,Sean Tarry Racing,TKP Racing & Haraka Bloodstock.
