Shadowfax, Banff Score At Turffontein
Sean Tarry Racing had a good day on Sunday, when the yard sent out Shadowfax and Banff to win at Turffontein.
Promising two-year-old Shadowfax built on a smart debut effort when he won Sunday’s Happy Father’s Day Juvenile Plate (1160m).
Under Richard Fourie, the One World colt made the most of a 3kgs pull from favourite Jan Van Goyen and stayed on to win by just under a length.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, the Sandy and Eugene Arundel owned Shadowfax had finished second on his only previous start and he looks to have the scope to build on his maiden win.
The Tarry yard struck again on Sunday when the lightly raced Banff captured the #Youcanbetonus! Middle Stakes (1160m).
Given a good ride by Callan Murray, the three-year-old ran on from just off the pace to get up close to home and score by just under a length and a quarter.
Now a winner of two of five starts, the Moutonshoek bred gelding races for Team Valor International in partnership with Vanashree and Anant Singh.
Banff is a son of Moutonshoek’s G1 Ranvet Stakes winning sire The United States, with Sunday’s winner a half-brother to Listed Wolf Power 1600 runner up Stone Cold.
