Sean Tarry Racing sent out a pair of well-bred Vercingetorix fillies to win at TAB Vaal on Thursday.
Celeritas, a three-year-old full sister to Listed In Full Flight Handicap runner-up Speedman, got off the mark at just the second time of asking when she won Thursday’s #Youcanbetonus!Maiden Plate (1000m).
Always well placed, under Keagan De Melo, Celeritas kicked on strongly in the closing stages and drew off to score by just over three parts of a length.
Bred by Dr Veronique Kritzinger, Celeritas had finished fourth (despite racing wide), over 1200m, on her only previous start. Owned by the Wernars Family, Celeritas is out of the Trippi-sired G3 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Speedy Suzy.
Sean said after the win, "I think she has a future, this filly. Shylock did a great job in KZN with the horses.”
The Tarry Yard's second success came when the beautifully bred Thundering Hooves claimed the fourth race at TAB Vaal, the Tickets@Howler For The Betway Summer Cup Maiden Plate (F and M) (1700m).
Making just her second start, the Craig Zackey-ridden three-year-old, making just her second start, flew up late to break her maiden by just over half a length.
Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Thundering Hooves is owned by Mrs Jo Gardner, Mr Bruce Gardner, Wernars Family, Vendel Civils (Pty) Ltd & Drakenstein Stud. Still growing into her frame, Thundering Hooves was another filly to join Shylock in Durban.
Her dam, Witchcraft, trained by Sean, was a smart performer and dual winner of the G3 Track And Ball Oaks. A daughter of Kahal, Witchcraft is a half-sister to the Tarry-trained G1 winner Under Your Spell.
