Griselda, Fire Storm Score On Guineas Day

Sean Tarry Racing enjoyed a good day at Turffontein on Saturday. Not only did the stable win two races on the day, but the yard’s classy three-year-old Grand Empire caught the eye when he finished second in Saturday’s G2 TAB Gauteng Guineas.

Promising two-year-old Griselda had made a smart debut when she finished a close-up second back in January. The daughter of Erik The Red duly went one better on Saturday when Griselda ran out a convincing winner of the 4Racing Welcomes You Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1000m).
Always up with the pace, under Craig Zackey, Griselda pulled clear in the closing stages before going on to post a one and a quarter length win. Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Griselda’s success added further gloss to the partnership of Antony and Angela Beck and Mark Hackner. The filly, whose female line suggests she is looking for more ground, is out of G2 Gold Bracelet winner Gallica Rose, a daughter of Silvano.

The yard saddled another promising sort in the form of Fire Storm to win the third race at Turffontein on Saturday.
Making just his second start, the three-year-old son of Pathfork ran on strongly, under Gavin Lerena, to claim the Classic Day 7 March Maiden Plate (1400m) going away by over a length and a quarter. Bred by the Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud, Fire Storm races for Kestorm Investments.
