Rodeo Drive game in Ipi Tombe Challenge

Sean Tarry Racing had a wonderful day at Turffontein on Tuesday.

The stable won three races on Tuesday, headlined by Rodeo Drive’s courageous win in the day’s feature race, the G2 Mike De Kock Ipi Tombe Challenge.

Rodeo Drive’s G2-winning stablemate Callmegetrix put up another good effort to finish third in the Ipi Tombe Challenge.

Under a great ride from Philasande Mxoli, the four-year-old made much of the running in Tuesday’s G2 feature. Rodeo Drive kept finding gamely in the closing stages to hold off runner-up Minogue and win by a short-head.

A daughter of the underrated The United States, Rodeo Drive was bred by Sandown Stud. The filly, who is out of Listed Stormsvlei Mile winner Crystal Cavern, races for Haraka Bloodstock in partnership with G Ambrose, K Maher, C Spalding, DS & MJ Slade, S&T Cawdry, B Taylor, D Priest, A Doyle & B Holland. Rodeo Drive’s first G2 success took her earnings to R1,087,938

The Tarry yard also sent out Inspiration and Magic Carpet Ride to win the first two races at Turffontein on Tuesday.

Rafeef filly Inspiration gained a well-deserved first success when Richard Fourie guided her to a three-and-a-half-length win in the 4Racing Welcomes You Maiden Plate (F and M) on Tuesday. Bred by Wilgerbosdrift (for whom she races) & Mauritzfontein, Inspiration had finished second in her two starts prior to her maiden victory.

The well-bred Magic Carpet Ride, a full sister to G1 Wilgerbosdrift H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes-winning sire MK’s Pride, got off the mark when she stormed home, under Gavin Lerena, to win the Racing Today Maiden Plate. The daughter of Sean’s former stable star Willow Magic stayed on well to shed her maiden by half a length. Bred by Bush Hill Stud, Magic Carpet Ride races for J Lahoud, A Lahoud, L Pogir, S Poriazis, Cliff Simaan, Craig Zoghby, Gary Citron, B G Gardner, M A Currie & Kenny Govender.
