The Yard Enjoy A Festive Double At Turffontein!
Sean Tarry Racing enjoyed a notable double at Turffontein on Saturday, with the stable’s charges Sakura Hanami and Callmegetrix winning their respective races.
What A Winter filly Sakura Hanami had finished second to Rockaroundtheclock at her previous start and she was duly sent off favourite for the Racing Today Maiden Plate (1160m).
Under a positive ride from Richard Fourie, the three-year-old was always up with the pace in Saturday’s contest, and, when asked the question, Sakura Hanami drew off to win convincingly by two lengths. ASSM Racing Syndicate’s Arun Chadha was on course to lead in his winner, and Sakura Hanami looks unlikely to stop here. Bred by Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud, Sakura Hanami, a half-sister to G2 Hawaii Stakes winner Zouaves, is out of the Jallad mare Zayna.
The stable’s second success on Saturday came when classy five-year-old Callmegetrix won the Play Soccer 6,10 And 13 Pinnacle Stakes (1600m). Under French jockey Mickaelle Michel, the daughter of Vercingetorix made the most of a light weight when storming home to beat favourite The Equator by a comfortable near three and a quarter lengths. Winner of this season’s G2 Betway Joburg Spring F and M Challenge, the Rathmor Stud bred Callmegetrix has won seven of 26 starts. An exciting future broodmare prospect, Callmegetrix races for Mario Ferreira and the Camargue Stud Syndicate.
The stable would like to wish all their loyal supporters a Happy New Year. May 2026 prove prosperous and happy for everyone!
