Two-Year-Olds Shine At Turffontein

Sean Tarry Racing followed up a wonderful four-timer at Turffontein on Thursday with a repeat performance at the Big T on Saturday.

Tarry-trained runners won race one, two, four, and eight, with a number of the yard’s charges putting up really smart performances in the process.

Blue-blooded two-year-old Get Up made an eye-catching debut on Saturday when she won the 4Racing Welcomes You Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1160m).

The daughter of champions What A Winter and Gabor was given a fine ride by the inform Ryan Munger.

Ryan gave his mount a chance before bringing Get Up with a sustained late run which saw the pair get up close to home and score by an emphatic two and a half lengths.

Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, Get Up looks to be a promising filly with a bright future ahead of her!

Sean holds another two-year-old, Prayersandpromises, in high regard, and that son of Gimmethegreenlight justified favouritism when victorious in Saturday’s #Youcanbetonus! Maiden Juvenile Plate (1160m).

Another winner partnered by Ryan Munger, Prayersandpromises had to dig down deep in Saturday’s contest, but the colt showed plenty of courage when fighting on strongly to win by a long neck.

Making just his second start (Prayersandpromises had finished a close-up third on debut), Saturday’s winner races for ASSAM Racing.

Prayersandpromises, who was bred by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds, is out of the Fort Wood mare Awayinthewoods.

Sean’s former star charge Siren’s Call, so unlucky not to win the Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara of 2015, has enjoyed plenty of success as a broodmare, with her progeny including the Tarry-trained dual G3 winner Sound Of Warning and Listed Settlers Trophy winner Call To Unite.

The deceased daughter of Elusive Fort looks to have come up with another smart sort in the form of Warning Light.

The latter, a three-year-old gelded son of Gimmethegreenlight, made a breathtaking debut on Saturday when he won the SA Derby 4 April Maiden Plate (1160m). Under a patient ride from Gavin Lerena, Warning Light raced well off the pace early on before steadily making up ground close to home.

Warning Light quickened up smartly in the closing stages to get up to win by over a length and three-quarters, despite the odds appearing against him early on.

Owned by Kestorm Investments, the gelding was bred by Drakenstein Stud.

The Tarry yard have done a fine job with classy gelding The Specialist, who at one stage appeared to have lost his zest for racing. On Saturday, that son of The United States made it back-to-back wins when he won the For Hospitality Bookings Call 011 681 1796 MR 100 Handicap (1160m) in fine style.

Racing at the back of the field early on, the four-year-old got up close home to edge out runner-up Lead The Charge by half a length. The Specialist was ridden by Keagan De Melo, who has now ridden the gelding twice for two wins.

Bred by Ascot Stud, The Specialist races for Mukund Gujadhur, the Michaels, Rikesh Sewgoolam and the Wernars family.
